Paul Wardell, PGA Director of Instruction at Renaissance Club

'Creating better and happier golfers’

I’m a PGA Professional who is born and bred in East Lothian, playing the majority of my golfing career on links courses. I’m the lead PGA coach at Renaissance Club, the venue for the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open. I am also available on request for coaching at North Berwick West Links.

I competed regularly on the Scottish PGA Tour where I had been a top competitor for many years. My accolades include an order of merit title, runner-up to former Open champion Paul Lawrie in the Scottish Matchplay Championship and winner of 21 other Tartan Tour titles along with numerous minor tour wins.

My teaching philosophy has been built around my experiences as a player, mastering the variety of shots that golf demands. Through this knowledge and experience of the game, I understand what a golfer wants from coaching, whether a novice or an accomplished player. My approach to coaching is structured and managed. I believe it is imperative that the player can continue to play and enjoy their golf, whilst simultaneously making the necessary improvements.

Coaching Highlights

I coached Hilary Monaghan from Scottish Junior Girl to Full International and Scottish Amateur Champion and onto her representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup and Vagliano Trophy teams.

I have been a coach to current and aspiring tour players. I was also a county coach for the Lothians Golf Association Boys junior squads for 10 years and also coach to junior boys and girls from the East Lothian junior section.
